This was one of the many things that was so uncomfortable about the Devil Wears Prada sequel – first that many of the main characters did not appear to have aged 20 years at all, and second that in order for that to make sense, a character so concerned about her budget for, say, unfreezing an embryo, was clearly spending everything on salmon sperm facials.

Ooooh I haven't seen it yet but it is SO distracting when someone who is supposed to be financially struggling has an obviously expensive face! ESPECIALLY when their financial situation is central to the plot!

This all reminds me of a lowkey reason I loved the show Adolescence - the main kid’s parents actually LOOKED LIKE PARENTS. It was so refreshing to see characters in their 50s being played by people in their 50s who looked the part, rather than later middle-aged actors with the “forever 35” face. They looked so real, and their faces were so expressive. It made me realize how actors having a frozen forehead and looking so much younger than they are is so common that when actors look their age, it’s notable. I just loved watching them in all their real, wrinkly glory.

It’s part of why I love watching old movies, even not-so-old movies from the 1990s! Parents look like ADULTS.
